Various stages involved in industrial wastewater treatment
You may know the importance of water treatment in industries as most of the outlets dump contaminated water into the environment. However, you should know the various stages involved in this treatment process as follows.
Screening – There will be several bigger wastes like plastics and wood particles. These particles will be screened and removed with the help of the screening equipment. So, the water with minute impurities alone will go to the following stages.
Grit removal – Although particles like sand are heavy, they will not get removed in the screening process as they are fine particles. They will get removed in this stage. Usually, the removed fine particles will get dumped in the landfills.
Primary setting – After the removal of heavy particles and sand, there will still be some minute particles that will usually settle down after some time. So, this settlement will get separated from the rest of the water with the help of a circular tank. As the particles settle down, the remaining water will come out easily. water treatment technology Phosphorous will also get removed as some chemicals will be added to the tank.
Aeration – All other impurities left would be minute enough to get mixed well with the water. Only bacteria can degrade these impurities. So, the biological degradation process happens in this water where respective bacteria would be ingested. You can see this process happening underneath inrivers and other water bodies. However, those natural processes would take years dayswhile this usingaeration process willallows convertsion of the contaminated water into pure water, cell tissue, and nitrogen in a short spanshorter time.
Secondary setting – This stage will separate the purified water from the activated sludge of the above process. A portion of Tthe sludge will again goreturn to the aeration tank.
Filtration and disinfection – The final stage before oxidation will betreatment is complete is filtration which is followed by using disinfectant also.
